Update
Gwen Allanson, daughter of Lieutenant Steve Sattler, saw the re-airing of Stephan's story and was certain that her father was the soldier Stephan had been looking for. Sattler was part of the 191st Army Tang Battalion and had often spoken of of the day he'd helped a young boy in Dachau. At the time, however, she was unable to get in touch with Stephan.Years later, Allanson told the story to her niece (also Sattler's granddaughter), Brenda Clark, who decided to search for Stephan. Finally, on August 26, 2012, Stephan received a phone call from Clark. Sadly, Stephan learned that Steve Sattler had passed away on December 7, 1986 (ironically Pearl Harbor Day). Although saddened by his hero's untimely passing, Stephan was excited at the prospect at finally finding word of the soldier after almost seven decades. On November of that year, Stephan was united with members of Sattler's family at a Veterans' Day Ceremony at the Massachusetts State House.
